A Lifetime in Coins

I began collecting coins in 2006 at just 8 years old. Like many collectors, I started with raw coins, filling albums and learning the foundations of the hobby. Those early years built the base for everything that followed.

My journey into certified coins began with an 1864-L Indian Head Cent that my father purchased. A defining moment came in 2016 at the Anaheim Coin Show, where I saw Paul Hubank’s Fireball Rainbow Lincoln set in person. I did not know Paul at the time, so it was especially nice to eventually talk with him after collecting for a while. That experience pushed me deeper into toned Lincoln cents and gave me a much greater appreciation for color and individuality within the series.

Around that same time, I started using Instagram and Facebook more frequently and discovered a great group of collectors. Through those connections, I purchased the majority of my current collection. Over time, I slowly developed an eye for originality, color, surface quality, and overall eye appeal. By slowly, I mean 20 years slowly. I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but those mistakes helped get me to where I am today.

I spent about five years collecting toned Lincolns, but after some thought I decided to divert my attention toward Liberty Double Eagles, especially Types 1, 2, and 3 with CAC stickers. I am on a slight hiatus until the precious metals market calms down and I can afford gold again.

Acknowledgements

My collection would not exist in its current form without the help, encouragement, and inspiration of fellow collectors, mentors, and friends who generously shared their time and knowledge.

Special thanks to Jason Wendt (Vivid_Coins), Paul Hubank (WingedLiberty), Bob Campbell (Robec), Dave Green, David Gaines (Lincolncentman), Jeff Kelble (CopperColor), Daryl Haynor (Ronyahski), and Carl Unger (ChloeBess). Carl is no longer with us, but he contributed some of my favorite pieces and many great conversations.

Their enthusiasm, guidance, and monster coins helped shape both the direction of the collection and the standards I try to hold it to.
